The Short Answer
If you can find a direct flight to Nevşehir (NAV) at a reasonable price and time, take it. The airport is significantly closer to Cappadocia's main towns, the terminal is less complicated, and your transfer will be 20-30 minutes shorter. If you can't — and most international travelers flying from Europe, the Middle East, or Asia won't find suitable NAV options — then Kayseri (ASR) is the practical choice.
Distance to Main Cappadocia Destinations
The difference in distance is real and matters. From Kayseri Airport to Göreme is approximately 75 kilometres, which takes 60-75 minutes by transfer. From Nevşehir Airport to Göreme is approximately 40 kilometres — around 35-45 minutes. For hotels in Uçhisar, Nevşehir Airport is under 30 kilometres away, while Kayseri Airport is over 80 kilometres.
This difference in transfer time becomes more significant if you're arriving late at night or early in the morning, or if you're traveling with young children who find long car journeys difficult.
Flight Options
Kayseri Airport (ASR) has direct connections from Istanbul (both IST and SAW), Ankara (ESB), Izmir (ADB), and several European cities. Turkish Airlines, Pegasus, and SunExpress all fly to Kayseri. The frequency is significantly higher than Nevşehir, which means more flexibility if your original flight is cancelled or you need to change your plans.
Nevşehir Airport (NAV) mainly serves domestic routes from Istanbul and Ankara. Direct international flights to NAV are limited and seasonal. If you're flying from outside Turkey, you'll almost certainly be routing through Istanbul regardless of which Cappadocia airport you use.
Airport Experience
Kayseri Airport is larger and has more facilities — a full restaurant, duty-free shop, multiple ATMs, and car rental desks for several companies. Navigation is straightforward but the building is bigger and takes more time to move through after landing.
Nevşehir Airport is smaller and simpler. There's a café, an ATM, and a car rental desk, but not the full range of facilities at Kayseri. The advantage is that the whole process from landing to exiting the building typically takes 20-30 minutes at NAV versus 30-45 minutes at ASR.
Transfer Cost

Recommendation by Hotel Location
For hotels in Uçhisar (Museum Hotel, Argos, Ariana, Taşkonaklar): Nevşehir Airport is by far the more convenient option — it's 20-25 minutes vs 75-80 minutes. If you can make NAV work, do it.
For hotels in Göreme (Sultan Cave Suites, Kelebek, Anatolian Houses): Either airport works. NAV saves you 25-30 minutes but Kayseri has far more flight options.
For hotels in Ürgüp (Kayakapı, Sacred House, Yunak Evleri): Both airports are reasonable. Kayseri is about 60 minutes; Nevşehir about 50 minutes. The difference is small enough that flight availability and price should drive the decision.
