Why Nevşehir Airport Exists
Nevşehir Kapadokya Airport (IATA: NAV) opened in 2009 specifically to bring passengers closer to Cappadocia's main tourist areas. Where Kayseri Airport sits roughly 75 kilometres from Göreme, Nevşehir sits around 40 kilometres away. For hotels in Uçhisar or Ortahisar, the difference is even more pronounced — NAV can be 30-35 minutes from these destinations, compared to 75-80 minutes from ASR.
The tradeoff is that NAV has fewer scheduled routes. Most direct international flights from Europe and the Middle East to Cappadocia use Kayseri; Nevşehir mainly handles domestic connections from Istanbul and Ankara. Whether NAV makes sense for your trip depends heavily on whether the flight timing works with your schedule.
The Terminal
Nevşehir Airport is noticeably smaller and simpler than Kayseri. There's one terminal building used for all arrivals and departures, with domestic and international facilities in the same space. Baggage claim is a single carousel — you'll typically have your luggage within 20 minutes of landing. There's a small café, an ATM, and a car rental desk, but the facility is more limited than Kayseri and doesn't have a full restaurant or duty-free shop.
The size means it's genuinely easy to navigate. From landing to finding your transfer driver usually takes 20-30 minutes at NAV, compared to 30-45 minutes at the larger Kayseri terminal.
Meeting Your Driver at NAV
Transfer drivers wait immediately outside the arrivals exit. The arrivals area at NAV is compact enough that you won't need to search — if you walk out the exit, you'll see all waiting drivers within a few steps. Your driver will have a sign with your name.
If you've provided your flight number, we track the flight and adjust pickup timing for any delays. For domestic arrivals from Istanbul or Ankara, flights are occasionally diverted to Kayseri in poor weather — your driver will be notified if this happens and arrangements will be adjusted accordingly.
The Drive to Your Hotel
From NAV, the drive to Göreme takes approximately 35-45 minutes on good roads through the Cappadocia landscape. Uçhisar is only 20-25 minutes away, which makes NAV by far the most convenient airport for hotels in that village — Museum Hotel, Argos, and Ariana are all under half an hour from the terminal. For Ürgüp, plan for 45-55 minutes; for Ortahisar, 30-40 minutes.
The landscape visible during this drive is worth noticing even if you've been to Cappadocia before. The volcanic formations begin to appear within minutes of leaving the airport, and the approach to the valley towns gives you a sense of the scale of the landscape before you arrive.
Which Airport Should You Use?
If you can find a flight to NAV that works with your schedule and the price difference isn't significant, Nevşehir is the more convenient airport for the central Cappadocia area. The transfer is shorter, the terminal is simpler, and the overall arrival experience is less tiring.
